Mumbai Celebrated International Women’s Day With First Ever ‘Women’s Rally To The Valley’

Empowered to drive, shall be well shown off when its women’s day. And a special rally organised for women would just roar that thought into the deaf ears of orthodox thinkers. JK Tyre & Industries Limited in association with Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) and Aamby Valley City organized a women’s rally on the occasion of Women’s Day that happened to fall on Sunday, March 8, 2015. The event named as ‘Women’s Rally to the Valley’ saw a turnout of 250 cars occupied by 1000 women. The rally got flagged off by 8 in the morning from Hotel Sahara Star (near Domestic Airport) and continued to dot the city lines for showing off the women’s liberalisation, leading all the way up to Aamby Valley City for the final gathering. To say of more precise details about the event, a 77-year old Rajkumari S. Kasliwal turned out to be the first driver who got flagged off (by FIA President Mr. Jean Todt).

Commenting on behalf of WIAA, Mr. Nitin Dossa, Executive Chairman, said, WIAA’s core focus remained spreading awareness about road safety, but with rally it decided to further raise the alarm about the women’s safety in public transport, public places and roads. Number of attacks on women had immensely grown in recent times which had taken the organization to with this strong initiative for the Women’s Day this year.

At the venue, Mr. Jean Todt, President, Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) – the World body for Motor Sports and Mobility, was present who came on a special invitation. Sharing the stage of special guest for the Mumbai’s first women’s car rally, there were also Dr. Vijay Mallya, Chairman, FMSCI and a well-known Industrialist as well as true Motor Sports enthusiast Mr. Gautam Singhania.

Other handfuls that made to the rally, where to name the famous, they turned out to be actresses like Tanvi Azmi, Mugdha Godse, Neerja Birla, Gurmeet Chowdhry, and rallyists like Renuka Kripalani, Deepa Damodaran, Navaz Bhathena Sandhu and Katy Bhathena.

A large crowd also gathered to cheer up the enthusiasm who participated in the rally. Hence, this was the first edition of such an event organized by WIAA. We happen to see more of them in the coming years due to such anticipation from the members of society.
