The New Maruti Swift Dzire, which was introduced nearly four years ago took the market by storm and has since then sold a little more than 3.5 lakh units.
The new and improved Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire promises to trash its ungainly looks and come February 2012, the roads will see a newly designed and improved version of its older sibling.
What has not changed is that this car is still one hell of a no-nonsense four seat sedan designed perfectly for Indian conditions and has been cleverly kept under the excise duty excesses to be paid and ultimately passed on to the consumer; as it still remains an under 4 metres in length.
‘Dzire-ably’ yours:
The New Maruti Swift Dzire draws its inspiration from Swift and bears an uncanny resemblance as far as the front end is concerned with a slight modification to the bonnet grille, forefront bumper giving it its own distinctive individuality. The Swift headlamps remain unchanged and the A-pillar gets a shade of black. All in all – a cool new look.
This car is more compact and at a glance looks a little smaller. Dimension wise the car’s length is only 165 mm lesser than its older sibling, measuring just under 4,000 mm. Breadth wise it gets slightly bigger by 5 mm, a little under 1,700 mm and height is up by 25 mm. All other dimensions like the wheelbase remain unchanged. This sedan stands at approximately 170 mm from the ground, maneuverability radius at approximately 5 metres, but cramps the boot space, a deliberate change taking into consideration statistical data which indicates that the space is not always used.
The new Dzire is clearly in the hunt for new aficionado as with a sleeker design, with near perfect tail lights, upgraded body panels , rear doors and roof panel. The outdoor rear view mirrors have integrated spin indicators with large mirror bases.
A Spanking New Interior:
The new Dzire interiors are splashing with sliding center controls and automatic climate control with a new six speaker audio system. The interior of the new Dzire also draws heavily from the new Swift. The manufacturer is clearly trying to bite into the up-market segment with spanking new interiors by replacing the old polypropylene inserts and a color tone of a lighter beige and black with a wood finish. The interiors are also quite spacious with well thought out natty leather, stylish door panels and silver toning. The plush seating is a delight as one gets a feeling of a relaxed ambiance while driving.
The Workstation:
In American parlance the engine of any car is its workstation. The New Maruti Swift Dzire does not have a new engine. It comes with the same K 12M VVT engine, which runs on petrol. An optional DDIS diesel engine for the money conscious (where fuel consumption is concerned) consumer will also be made available. The engine brings in a maximum torque of nearly 6,000 revolutions per minute and the ratio between power and weight adds to the smooth thrust of this sedan. Another noticeable addition is its fully automatic transmission, but it reduces the fuel efficiency of the car by a couple of miles per liter. The New Maruti Swift Dzire will deliver a mileage of nearly 20kmpl as far as the petrol version is concerned, while the diesel version will deliver a mileage of nearly 24kmpl.
For the potential buyer:
The first time buyer will be drawn in to buy this car as it promises value for money. Priced between Rs.5 to a little over Rs.6 lakhs (ex-showroom), the new Swift Dzire will be within reach of most middle class consumers.
