With the 3.7 million New Octavias running successfully on the roads, the Czech based affordable luxury car maker is launching the next generation of this car soon. In spite of being a lesser known brand and having a big price tag, the Octavia had brought fortunes to Skoda with its bigger appearance and roomy yet classy interiors.
The Ocatavia enjoys a ‘Bid Daddy’ image in its segment. So to keep it going the new Octavia is 90mm longer than the predecessors. While it is beefed up by 45mm on the sides (width) as well. The most remarkable change on the size part is that of the wheelbasewhich has been increased by 108mm.
Based on its parent company Volkswagen new MQB Platform, the new Octavia have much more space than before i.e. 1782mm of interior length which means more headroom, and much more legroom for front and the rear as well. Skoda uses high strength steel on the MQB platform which increases the strength of the chassis and makes it more stiffer. At the same time it also reduces the weight, so the new Octavia is be lighter by 102 kgs.The boot has also been increased by 90mm.
On the front it sports the same aggressive yet stylish appearance with the updated grille. The new logo shines brightly on the round edge of the bonnet. The lines flowing on the sides gives it a sharper and a fresher look and if I say it with more precision the tornado line seperates the actual and the shadow at the rear of the car and also gives it a coupe look along with the larger wheelbase.
Interiors have also been changed to an extent. It now has added features like keyless entry and exit, engine start button, Adaptive Cruise Assistant, Automatic Parking Assistant, all new Radio Navigation System and icing on the cake is the CANTON sound system.
Safety has also been enhanced along with the looks. New Octavia have a front and head airbags, three point safety belts with tighteners and headrests. The stiff steel body adds to the safety of the car.
Under the hoods the Octavia sports a 1.4 TSI petrol engine (same from the VW Jetta Petrol) in the petrol variant. In the diesel variant it has a 1.6 litre TDII engine taken from the Indian Rapid with some miinor changes in that and for the European market it has four petrol and two diesel engines.
Soon we will also see the all-wheel drive version of the new Ocatvia and the good news is that it might will see a launch in India as well.
Octavia will be priced between 1.5 million to 2.1 million INR.
