Nissan India has inaugurated a new after-sales PDC (parts distribution centre) in Chennai at the Indospace SKCL Industrial Park in Sriperumbudur Taluk. Built over an extensive 4.8 lakh square feet area, the plant is the company’s biggest and first of the additional parts distribution centres and features a daily outbound volume of 2800 lines per day unlike the previous plant’s 700 lines. The PDC also has an increased dispatch rate of 90 percent and is capable of dispatching parts the same throughout the country. The automaker is also planning to open more parts distribution centres in the country with Chennai centre as the hub.
Mr. Kenichiro Yomura, President at Nissan India Operations said: “Customer satisfaction is one of our key focus areas this fiscal year. Our new after-sales PDC reaffirms our commitment to our customers in India. Efficient supply of spare parts across our existing service network is imperative to complement our plan to increase our sales touchpoints.” “Our plan is to have a hub-and-spoke parts distribution model. We will setup additional spare parts distribution centres in other locations in India in coming months, while Chennai will be the distribution hub.”
To be directly managed by Nissan Motor India with the support of Nippon Express, Uusen Logistics and Indospace, the Chennai PDC employs around 300 floor members and was constructed in a record period of just 11 months. The new parts distribution centre is aimed to help optimize the automaker’s supply chain management process in the country by providing a more efficient delivery of spare parts to its authorized workshops. This will result in faster service delivery experience for customers thus enhancing customer satisfaction.
The key deliverables of the Chennai PDC are consistent enhancement in parts availability VOR same day dispatch (within 24 hours delivery), (top level of parts fill rate), 3R environmental contribution (reuse of returnable packaging and recycle and wooden crate) and continuous enhancement in quality (including full track road scheme and packaging design).
