Following the commencement of production in India recently, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno will be launched here on October
26th. The car is likely to take on the Elite i20 and was recently revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Baleno is to be a sub-four metre hatchback and is based on a brand new platform from the carmaker. It will also
be the first hatchback to feature hybrid technology in India. In terms of looks, the car looks great and has swept
back headlamps, a V-shaped chrome line as well as a partial floating roof. This is all in line with the new design
philosophy from Maruti. With 355 litres in terms of boot space, this will be a huge short holiday favourite as well.
The Baleno or YRA is to be powered by a 1.2-litre VVT petrol mill which will deliver 83bhp in terms of peak power as
well as 115Nm in terms of peak torque. When it comes to the diesel variants, there is a 1.3 litre DDiS200 option
which delivers 90bhp of power and 200Nm in terms of torque. It is believed that the 1.0 litre turbocharged BoosterJet
petrol mill may also be added which would deliver 92bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. The engines will all come with
the new SHVS technology which would deliver higher mileage as well.
The YRA is likely to be priced between Rs.5.5 lakh to Rs.8.5 lakh and is to take on the Honda Jazz and the Elite i20.
