Piaggio, that iconic Italian Vespa maker, has now launched its latest autorickshaw in India called the Apé City diesel for Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom Tamil Nadu). It is available only in BS III variant.
Hopefully, going by its name, the three-wheeler of Piaggio is powered by a 395cc single-cylinder diesel engine of 7.5bhp at 3,600 rpm and 16.7 Nm of peak torque at 2,200 rpm. The engine is air-cooled and is devoid of turbocharger. The 5-speed manual gearbox comes as a standard.
Buyers can also opt for its petrol, CNG and LPG variants. Piaggio says, the Apé City is manufactured at the company’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra. The total capacity of the plant is 300,000 units.
Hence, it will be interesting to see this same engine to be fitted on the upcoming bikes/scooters of the future to cut down our fuel costs. Does the Piaggio have any plans for supplying this same motor to other bike makers in the country? Do let us know in our comments section if you have any information about it.
