Within probably a week of August 15th Maruti Suzuki will launch a hybrid version of its Ciaz sedan in India, but no date for the impending launch has been announced as yet. As we have said a couple of days before, the Ciaz sedan has seen a drop in sales in recent times and to clear stocks lying with dealerships, Maruti is now offering a Rs.25,000 discount on the car. This is most likely has been done keeping the hybrid version launch in mind since that would replace the diesel Ciaz in the Indian market.
Along with the earlier 1.3-liter multijet drivetrain, the new Ciaz will also use Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology. This technology uses regenerative braking to charge the on board lithium-ion battery. It was first showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The SHVS will also improve Ciaz’s mileage figures to 30kmpl.
Apart from the addition of the hybrid engine, the car will also get some minor changes to its interior. It is not yet clear if the petrol variants of Ciaz will get any hybrid engine or not. Nothing is known about the pricing as yet, but we believe the top end version will be around Rs.1.5 lakh more than the earlier Ciaz.
