Not content with making some inroads into the Indian passenger car segment, Renault are planning to get a slice of the lucrative LCV segment in India. Already partner Nissan have launched their Dost LCV and now Renault are scouting high and low for a partner to market their LCVs in India. The segment already boasts of having Piaggio, M&M, Tata Motors, Volvo, Eicher and also Bajaj Auto at the helm with the likes of GM likely to follow soon.
As of now, Renault Motors India have deep plans of bringing a hatchback, SUV and also a crossover vehicle soon into the Indian market. For their venture in the LCV segment, the company is thinking of bringing in a light truck. Renault India’s Managing Director Marc Nassif said that the company is still in talks with other manufacturers and would need to match the price quotient as also the quality that Renault India is known for. He also said that initially the company was planning on launching the LCV with then partner Mahindra and this was the very reason why the company chose Mahindra as their partner in the first place. Mahindra & Mahindra have a very strong presence in the LCV segment and Renault was planning on getting this thing dealer network to their advantage.
