The hatchback category in the Indian auto market is already facing a lot of competition, and it looks like things will only heat up further. French auto manufacturer, Renault has announced that they will introduce a new hatchback model for India at the 2012 Auto Expo. The new model will compete with Maruti Suzuki’s Swift. The new car has been designed specifically to meet the needs of the Indian auto market by the company’s design centre based in Mumbai.
The company’s Executive VP, Philippe Klein was quoted as saying that they will introduce the hatchback in January next year. This car will be launched in the B to B+ category, being designed specifically to meet the Indian customer needs by their Mumbai centre. This car will be introduced in the same category as Maruti Suzuki’s Swift.
Klein also said that the company will be introducing the Koleos SUV by 2011 end. Following the launch of the hatchback, their fourth car in this market will be the Duster SUV. This will be introduced during 2012s second half, according to Klein.
The company launched the Fluence just recently in India. Klein further added that they have already announced a line up of 5 models in the portfolio for India by 2012 end. All of these models are to be assembled at their Indian facility located in Chennai.
