The 2013 JK Tyre Himalayan Drive Rally, which went on for three days, finally ended on a successful note on March 24th, 2013, going over the terrains of Sikkim, Darjeeling, Eastern Himalayas and West Bengal.
The much awaited Time-speed-distance (TSD) rally was kicked off from Siliguri city center on 22nd march 2013. The sponsors of the JK Himalayan Drive comprised City Center Siliguri, Radio Misty, Servo (IOC), and Telegraph Sikkim Tourism.
The head-Motor sports department of JK Tyres and Industries Limited Sanjay Sharma commented on this one-of-a-kind motor event saying that the aim behind the JK Tyre Himalayan drive 2013 was to give a boost in the sport events in Sikkim, Darjeeling and West Bengal.
Mr. Sharma added that they are happy that it turned out to be a milestone.
Already having their mark made in the Indo-Bhutan rally, through other activities, JK intends to take the sport to all the corners of the country. This being a memorable moment, they hoped to see more events.
As a result, this year’s edition of the rally was the first of its kind to be organized in pristine landscape of Eastern Himalayas. Jointly organized by Just Sportz Managment Private Limited, Govt of West Bengal Sikkim and GTA, the successful event attracted more than 50 participants from areas of Gangtok, Siliguri, Darjeeling as well as West Bengal.
The navigator victorious team of Soham Hazare and Nirav Mehta were the winners whilst S. K. Ajgar Ali and K. Mohammad Mustafa were 2nd and Suber Roy and Amit Saha took 3rd position.
The adrenaline pumping 400 kilometer (km) long Time-speed-distance (TSD) Rally encompassed spectacular landscapes and awe-inspiring paths of the Eastern Himalayas, much to the pleasure of all partakers. The rally crossed via abundant green territories of West Bengal, stunning hills of Sikkim and Darjeeling, passing by thick forests, tea gardens and the royal Tista River. The partakers delighted a unique chance to experience the regal panoramic sights of snow covered Eastern Himalayas, local civilization and everyday lives of Lepcha, Nepali, Bhutia, and other local cultures of the area. The action junkies of JK Tyre Himalayan Drive Time-speed-distance convention also bagged an opportunity to overcome the demanding inclines of the Mt. Kanchenjunga, the globe’s third main peak after Everest and K2.
While showing his joy at the first motor sporting show arranged in the Eastern Himalayas, Tamal Ghosal, Director, Just Sportz Management and Clerk of the Course (COC), JK Tyre Himalayan Drive stated, “The Eastern Himalayas have a huge prospective for adventure sports and a Time-speed-distance (tsd) convention is the first step to unleash the view of motor sports in the area.
