Official images of the upcoming Baleno hatchback have been released by Suzuki. The hatchback, once it is launched in the international and domestic market in India, will position itself right above the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatch. The production version of this car will be showcased at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.
Styling of the Baleno is quite similar to the IK-2 concept that was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. For instance, the frontal grille and the headlights of the Baleno have been borrowed from the IK-2 concept, with some changes of course. The front bumper has a simple design with straight air dams and fog lamps being located on either ends. The wheel design of the Baleno is certainly different from what we saw in the YRA concept.
Under the hood, Baleno will be powered by 1.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged boosterjet petrol engine combined with Suzuki’s SHVS electric motor. In India too it is expected to see an SHVS version in combination with 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine. Mileage for the diesel Baleno is expected to be around 30kmpl.
On the inside, the Baleno borrows features from Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and S-Cross. These include a 7-inch SmartPlay Infotainment system, cruise control etc.
As far as launch date is concerned, it is quite possible that the Baleno may be launched in Indi this year itself, while it may be launched internationally sometime next year.
