Showcased in 2018 at the Auto Expo by the name of 45X Concept, Tata Motors are now set to finally launch the Altroz EV this year in March 2022. Tata Motors is one of the first Indian automotive brands that is ambitious enough to rapidly push the consumers towards the Electric Vehicles. After the launch of the Nexon EV in 2020, Tata had plans of launching the Tigor & Altroz EV in the same year, but COVID-19 had delayed this launch.
The Altroz EV will be architectured on Tata’s newly designed ‘Agile Light Flexible Advanced’ (ALFA) platform, just like the Petrol & Diesel-powered Altroz. The use of the ALFA platform enhances the assurance of Tata’s robustness to a new level. The Altroz is also agile as compared to previous hatchbacks from Tata, owing to the use of the ALFA Platform.
Tata Altroz EV 2022 Specification
The Altroz EV will be sharing the battery pack with the Tata Nexon but with a different tune and driving range. The Altroz EV will come with a high energy density battery pack which will help in delivering an expected range of 250-300 Km. The battery pack can charge itself from 0-80% in just 60 minutes. Propelling the Altroz EV is a Permanent Magnet AC Motor which is paired to a single-speed gearbox.
What Changes to Expect?
Exteriors
The Tata Altroz EV 2022 will carry subtle changes from the standard Altroz to exhibit its distinctiveness. On the front, the Altroz EV will receive an EV badge on the piano black grill to shout out loud about its electrification, and since there is no internal combustion engine that needs large air flowing dams to keep the temperature down, the air dam will now be neater and much more aerodynamic.
The Altroz EV will also get Tata EV’s teal blue style element all around the exterior and interiors. The twin LED headlamps and alloy wheels get those EV styling bits so you do not confuse this EV with a standard Altroz. Speaking of alloy wheels, the EV gets larger wheel size than before, the Altroz EV will proudly sit on 16’’ machined alloy wheels.
Apart from these added EV styling elements, the Altroz remains identical to the standard Altroz in terms of interior and exterior. However, the interior can feel slightly roomier than before, due to the absence of a gear lever in the center console.
The Altroz EV is expected to launch in March 2022, at an ex-showroom price of Rs 12 Lakhs.
