In our context, if there would be an award for the car sold in most numbers without having enough features for the money inside cabin, except the good looks on outer, then undoubtedly it is going to be the Toyota Fortuner, because the Japanese had gained lot of output in number of sales, but still doing with those same old school techs inside the big-bunkered SUV.
Apart from the gestures, a report on internet is claimed to see the Toyota Fortuner with the new entry-level variant weighing with the smaller 2.5-litre diesel under hoods. And alongside, an automatic transmission for the top-of-the-line all-wheel drive version is also said to be making way to the list soon.
At present, the Toyota Fortuner is sold with the two-wheel drive base variant, a 2WD automatic mid variant and a manual four-wheel-drive on the top of line. The engine deployed in the bays of all three is a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel of 168bhp. The new 2.5-liter diesel motor would produce 142bhp after being mated to a manual transmission for the base 2WD variant.
Pricing for the new base is about to begin at Rs 20.82 lakh, around Rs 1 lakh less than the current entry level (base 3.0-litre 2WD costs Rs 21.82 lakh).
In fact, the report further claimed, the new entry-level Fortuner (with 2.5-liter diesel engine) is not going to stir better amount of number from the pot of Indian market but hatched only as a gap filler. That new top-end with the 3.0-liter AWD automatic transmission will sure footedly to sit on the top of range, in terms of numbers and price both. Speculated to fall at Rs 24 lakh, Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the current top-of-the-line manual model, it is expected to top the sales chart as well.
Launch of new Toyota Fortuners to happen later this year around the festive season.
