Volvo already had a number of options to stand competitively in the market, but its hunger pang of taking the niche class doesn’t seems to have ended so. Hence, rumored somedays back, a range-topping sedan of Volvo is going to come soon, now that same had received an official tagging too from the chief of Geely and Volvo as well. Chairman Li Shufu confirmed the upcoming car of Volvo will be positioned alongside the Mercedes-Benz S Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, all the flagship models of upmarket brands.
It is learnt that Volvo calls it as S100 in the prototype stage. It is said to be pinning an extended version of modular Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), which the next-gen S80 sedan and other badges of Volvo are going to dwell. It is no doubt styling sues and legroom will be borrowed by the Concept Coupe which has been previewed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Now there doesn’t lays any doubt that a lot of practicality and ample of legroom will be pampering its customers too.
The S100 flagship will be built at Volvo’s Chengdu in China. It is said to take approximately tenure of two years for rolling out from the production bay. Exports will be trailed to European countries and US from the shores of China.
It is expected turbocharged four-cylinder engines will be lurking the engine bay of S100 for the unmatched performance. Details on technical aspects still remain sketchy. More of the sneaks and peeks will rip off the curtain before the car would make schedule of hitting some major motor shows of China.
Designing cues to us is expected of sloping coupe like roofline, like that of the Concept Coupe at 2013 Frankfurt, suicide doors, some astonishing long wheelbase, and matching silhouette rear to be similar of the said. However, Volvo too had said the concept coupe is a glimpse of the upcoming Swedish cars. Hence, it can be said, Volvo can make the most of it from the Frankfurt concept before letting that car to go away like anyway.
