Volkswagen brings in various innovations to the market, and had portrayed itself a most innovative German brand for the masses here. Lending us another example of it, the students at the three-year Dual Apprentice course at the Volkswagen Academy have built a firefighting car.
The Volkswagen’s safety department at Pune plant will be the ones to get their hands onto it. Given an assignment of building a car on a low budget, was the motive of the project. Hence, it was a part of the final year assignment of the debut batch students.
It was a group of fourteen students of the Volkswagen Academy who had completed this task. The vision behind making this car was – to be used at the Fire and Safety Department of Volkswagen’s Pune Plant every day. Utilized the scrapped parts and components of VW Vento and the Cross Polo, the final product was rolled out of the workshop with a minimum manufacturing cost.
Learning the changes made, number of modifications were crafted out from the B-pillar to the tailgate to create a pick up and add other fully functional firefighting equipments. The tailgate has been fabricated like that of a pickup truck with hinges deployed at the bottom for easy loading and unloading. The academy said, more than 160 parts were specially designed for the car.
Under the hoods, VW firefighting car uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine.
