Volkswagen’s new version of the Touareg has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs.58.5 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). The Volkswagen Touareg is a mid-size crossover SUV with a 5-door body style.
This new version has received a minute working on its chassis design and weight reduction. It is 40 mm longer with a wheelbase of 2893 mm and about 200 kg lighter than the previous model of Volkswagen Touareg.
Under the hood, it has a massive 3.0-liter 6-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 236 bhp @ 4200rpm and 56.08 kgm of torque @ 2250rpm. It has an eight-speed gearbox but most disappointing is that it does not come with paddle shifters.
Most likely, Volkswagen has dumped all of its possible and present features in the Touareg. It has a list of features some of which are-Bluetooth audio system along with touch-screen that acts as the screen for the reverse camera, a dual-zone climate control system, keyless entry and direct start switch, a panoramic sunroof, the rear seats can be folded to increase the boot space which may come in use when you are probably going for a vacation. The headlights are automatic Bi-Xenon headlamps with integrated cornering lights at the side.
As for safety, it has airbags for drivers as well as for passengers and has Electronic Stability Control. It is an all-wheel drive vehicle and has a seat capacity of five persons instead of seven/eight unlike other SUVs.
Volkswagen Touareg will compete with the BMW X5, Mercedes ML 350 CDI and possibly other upcoming SUVs of this class and standard.
