Volvo, the Swedish car maker has taken a step to make a mark in Gujarat. Volvo Cars opened a dealership in Ahmedabad. The carmaker is planning to sell a cool 150 units in its first year i.e. 2013. The dealership is allotted to ‘Autobots’ which is co-owned by Dhaval Thakkar.
In a press statement released by Volvo Auto India, Volvo says that Gujarat is one of the most potential states in India and an important market too. Mr. Thomas Ernberg, MD for Volvo Cars says that SUV market is growing faster than sedan. Luxury car segment of India will grow by 10%-15% in the year 2013 but he is expecting Volvo to grow by 50%. He is also planning to sell 20,000 units till 2020.
Swedish carmaker will sell four luxury car models at Gujarat dealership. Out of those four models two are SUVs and the other two are sedans.
Arvind Thakkar, owner of Autobots says that Volvo will be able to sell around 250 units in 2013, in spite of slowdown in economy. Arvind is much confident in his statement, as he is also the owner of Shital Motors Pvt. Ltd., which sells Mahindra and Mahindra cars.

Volvo cars are costing more in India than other countries because the company is importing in CBU (Completely Built Units) form. Cars will come directly from the production unit of Sweden and Belgium. Right now, Volvo didn’t have any plans either for manufacturing or assembling in India.
