One of the lesser known automobile makers in India, Volvo Motors has been busy last year with quite a few launches in the Indian market. Their first launch in India last year was the Volvo XC60 and then the Volvo S60. Now, in such a short span, to be given an award for been the Technology & Innovation is a sure shot way to get noticed. Yes, the Volvo XC60 has won the award for the “Technology & Innovation Award for the year 2011”. This was awarded by Bloomberg UTV Autocar Awards jury. The Managing Director of Volvo Motors India, Mr Paul de Voijs received this award on behalf of Volvo Motors.
This car was just launched in India in the month of November 2010, the Volvo XC60 is no stranger to awards. It has received Malaysia’s car of the year award for the year 2010 with extra emphasis on safety, UK and Australia’s SUV of the year award, International truck of the year award in the US, Russia conferred on it the tag of been the best crossover compact, Innovation Safety Award by the French government and so on.
The Volvo XC60 boasts of Active Bending Lights which are basically lights which turn with the steering, Instant traction control with the Haldex AWD, for city safety the Laser Assisted Automatic Braking, Four C namely the Continuous Chassis Concept Control and last but not the least, the power tailgate. Volvo Motors have always maintained that their core interest lies in creating safe cars which would have safety as well as quality to boast of. Mr de Voijs was elated and addressed the audience saying that he was overwhelmed to know that Volvo’s efforts in India are paying off and this is just the beginning for the Swedish car maker. Their Chinese owners, Geely have done nothing to neutralize the brand’s core values and infact, they have supported them all the way.
Almost all the quota alloted by the parent company for the Volvo XC60 for India have been already booked and new stocks of the same are awaited in 2011.
