With the sub-four meter market on a boom in India, many automakers are trying to take the advantage of the same. Renault and M&M has already come up with sub-four meter crossovers which are doing great in the Indian market. Further, the vehicles other than the crossovers in the same class are also doing well.
Now, Volkswagen has also confirmed that it is working on a sub-four meter Vento for the Indian market. R&D chief of the Volkswagen, Ulrich Hackenberg said that this is a possibility and Volkswagen is looking closely at it.
The new Vento will be in direct competition with the likes of Honda Amaze and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Volkswagen is hoping to bring in some more sales volume by selling sub four meter sedan.
However, it looks quite unlikely that VW will be planning to launch the compact version of the Vento in India before 2014. The compact Vento is currently in the developing phase with the VW India’s R&D team at the Chakan facility. The main strategy of the VW will be to try and maximize the Polo and vento platform (PQ25) and to extend it to the segments where VW is absent. VW is also rumored to be planning a compact SUV and even an MPV which will be based on the same PQ25 Platform.
